This guide contains information on how the Law Library can support your teaching, research, and scholarship.

General Instructions

As you prepare a course and select materials, you may need to review books. Most publishers offer review copies (also called exam copies) to help you make an informed decision. Here, we've gathered instructions for obtaining review copies from the major legal publishers. If you need help with a publisher not listed here, please contact the Reference Desk.

West Academic

Follow these steps:

  • Log in or create an account (the verification process may take a few days)
  • Search for your book, and click on it to see more information
  • Click the button "View Digital Copy" directly underneath the image of the book. This will open an online version of the textbook.
  • If you would like to request a print review copy, please email our rep at accountmanager@westacademic.com

Aspen (includes Wolters Kluwer, CCH, and Aspen)

Follow these steps:

  • Log in or click the "Register" link in the top right corner to create an account
  • Search for your book, and click on it to see more information
  • Click the button "Professor Review Copy", to the right of the "Add to Cart" button
  • If you would like to request a print review copy, please email support@aspenpublishing.com

Carolina Academic Press

To request a print copy:

  • Log in or create an account (click the "Account & Ebooks" button in the top middle of the page)
  • Search for your book, and click on it to see more information
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the blue button titled "Comp Copy"
  • Fill out the form to receive a print copy of the book
  • If have additional questions, please email comp@cap-press.com

LexisNexis Matthew Bender

Follow these steps:

  • Log in to or request an ID and password
  • Search for your book, and click on it to see more information
  • Click the button titled "Read Now"

Thomson Reuters Legal

Follow these steps:

  • Fill out the form at the above link, being sure to provide all information
  • To find the needed information on your book, search titles here

University Presses

University presses have varying processes for requesting review copies.  Please see below for information on several major presses. For assistance, please contact the Reference Desk.

Note: some university presses will charge you for the book and will waive the fee only if the book is either returned or adopted for classroom use.
