Bar Exam and MPRE Success

This guide contains resources for bar studiers.

About Local Components

Some UBE jurisdictions, including Ohio, require a pre-admission jurisdiction-specific law component before being admitted to that jurisdiction's bar. These components are created and administered by the local jurisdiction's bar examiners.

For the full list of UBE jurisdictions with a local component, see the NCBE's UBE Local Components webpage.

Ohio Law Component

Ohio bar applicants must take and pass the Ohio Law Component (OLC), an open-book exam consisting of 25 multiple choice questions. To pass, applicants must score an 80% or higher.

Visit the Ohio Supreme Court's Ohio Law Component webpage for more information on the OLC, including course outlines.

Other Local Components

Although most of our students are Ohio bar applicants, many seek bar admission in New York, Illinois, and our surrounding states: Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Only two of these states have local components: New York and Michigan.

Visit the New York Board of Law Examiner's website for information on the New York Law Exam and the Michigan Board of Law Examiner's website for information on the Michigan Law Basics online training.

For other UBE jurisdictions with local components, see the NCBE's UBE Local Components webpage.
